Thomas Plumbing Joins Forces with Hoke County Schools CTE to Offer Plumbing Internships

Raeford, NC, August 27, 2024 – Thomas Plumbing is proud to announce a new partnership with Hoke County Schools' Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, offering high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through plumbing internships. This collaboration aims to prepare the next generation for successful careers in the trades, contributing to the local economy and community development.

Empowering Students Through Real-World Experience

The Hoke County CTE program is dedicated to empowering students to become successful citizens, workers, and leaders in a global economy. "Our goal is to provide an environment that promotes an attitude and culture of College and Career Readiness through our Career and Technical Education classes," said Tonya Burney, Career Development Coordinator at Hoke County High School. "This partnership with Thomas Plumbing aligns perfectly with our mission by offering students practical experience that enhances their classroom learning and prepares them for future employment opportunities."

A Shared Commitment to the Community

Thomas Mewherter, Owner of Thomas Plumbing and a proud 2003 graduate of Hoke County High School, expressed his excitement about the partnership: "Hoke County has been a tremendous supporter of Thomas Plumbing, allowing us to grow and serve more homes while providing great careers in our community. We're thrilled to give back by introducing students to the viability of a career in the trades. Our hope is to positively impact the trajectory of these students, showing them that careers in plumbing and related home services offer fulfilling opportunities.”

Building a Stronger Community Together

The partnership is expected to have wide-reaching benefits for students and the community alike. "This collaboration fosters an environment of cooperation among the school, employers, and the community, contributing to building a more productive local economy," added Burney. "It also provides a pool of skilled and motivated potential future employees while reducing training and recruitment costs for businesses."

For students, the internship offers a unique opportunity to apply their academic and technical knowledge in a real-world setting, establish professional contacts, and develop essential work-related habits and attitudes. "We want to help students assess their interests, aptitudes, and abilities while learning about the career possibilities available to them," Burney emphasized.
